The Crown & Wheat

Today I'm sharing the third and last part of my rebranding story, before our big unveiling on Tuesday.

During my exploration phase of the rebranding process with Marcela from Brass Antics, I asked my Instagram followers for three words that described my business. One word was repeated over and over again that surprised me:

HERITAGE.

The word can mean a lot of different things. But I love how the Heritage Council of Ireland defines it:

"Our heritage is what we have inherited from the past, to value and enjoy in the present, and to preserve and pass on to future generations."

It makes sense that 'heritage' is a word you all associate with my shop, because from the very beginning, the preservation of story and place has been so important to me when bringing items to the shop.

The antiques and vintage I search out for you reflect the history and meaning of the place they were found - whether a Victorian dump site in England or a rural farm town in Kansas.

Marcela and I drew on those ideas when we created the motifs for the logo. The wheathead is an obvious reference to my rural Kansas roots - a reminder of my hometown Chanute, the place that shaped me.

The crown is a fun nod in several directions.

The first thing that struck me when Marcela showed me the crown were the three points - I have three children. They are the driving force behind my business, one of the big reasons I do what I do.

But if you're from Kansas City, you know that the crown is also part of our local identity. We are home of the KC Royals baseball team, and I drive by an enormous building-sized crown every time I pass the stadium.

And you all know my deep, abiding love of England - it was inevitable that as I grew my business, England would became an important part of my story. I love exploring the history of England through all the items I find. And in the coming months, it will play an even bigger part of the shop. But more on that later...

Three points on the crown. Three beloved children. Three places deep in my heart: Chanute, Kansas City, England.

The crown and wheat represent heritage - the parts of our history worth preserving and passing onto future generations. Ultimately, it's not about stuff. We are building homes that reflect our own personal legacy that we want to share with the world and those we love.

Thank you for giving me the incredible privilege to be part of that process through my shop.

I can't wait to share the final stage of this journey tomorrow, Tuesday morning, with you all.
