Antique Basket Patchwork Quilt, c1900

Available is an antique quilt with beautifully preserved fabrics in hard-to-find colors.

MATERIALS

The quilt is in a Basket patchwork pattern, with triangles of printed fabrics set in white. The calicos are a wide variety of prints, from purple sprig to madder brown and burgundy. Several patches are gingham, plaids, cheddar yellow and floral dress prints. White setting fabric. Hand quilted in white thread. Bound in white with treadle machine sewing. Very lightweight cotton batting. The backing has a manufacturer's stamp, still visible in red and blue.

CONDITION

Good antique condition. There is scattered fabric thinning in the patches. Light tanning along the center fold lines. Age spotting scattered throughout. Overall good condition for display and light use. It has not been washed, due to concerns about fabric fragility.

AGE

Exact age unknown. Estimated c1900 based on fabrics and techniques. Found in Kansas.
