Antique original copperplate engraving of a cross-section diagram of a 'First Rate Ship of War with Rigging at Anchor'. 'Plate CCCLI' in top right corner, and 'A. Bell' in bottom right corner. Identical examples found in the 1797 edition of Encyclopedia Brittanica, 3rd edition.
Andrew Bell (1726-1809) was a well known Scottish engraver who co-founded the Encyclopedia Brittanica.
Overall very good antique condition, with light toning throughout. Engraving sourced in England. Framed and matted in contemporary textured gilt wood frame with backing paper and hanging wire in place.
