Antique engraving of the coat of arms of Colonel Bourne of Hackinsall, MP (member of parliament).
The crest shows a seated lion with paw on a cross. The decorated shield has lion rampants, suns, and drops representing the sweat of warriors. The Latin motto 'Semper Vigilans' translates as 'always watchful' or vigilant.
Sir James Bourne, 1st Baronet (8 October 1812 – 14 March 1882) was an English Conservative Party politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1865 to 1880. He was also Lieutenant-Colonel Commandant of the Royal Lancashire Militia Artillery, and Colonel of the 4th Brigade Lancashire Artillery Volunteers. Bourne was made a Baronet of Hackinsall Hall, Lancashire, in 1880.
Engraving is dated 1873 under the mat and was sourced from England. Matted and framed in contemporary black and gilt wood frame, with hanging wire and backing paper.
Also included is a Pedigree of Bourne of Hackinsall, with lineage dating back to the 16th century. This is housed in a plastic sleeve and attached to the backing paper.
