Antique engraving of the coat of arms of Colonel Whitehead of Uplands Hall, Lancashire. The crest shows a pointed crown with wings emerging from the middle. The crown design is known as the Eastern Crown, granted to persons acquiring wealth or honor in the eastern world. The shield is divided, with symbols of horns and crown. The Latin motto "Dum spiro spero" translates as "While I breathe, I hope."
Engraving is dated 1873 under the mat and was sourced from England. Matted and framed in contemporary black and gilt wood frame, with hanging wire and backing paper.
Also included is a pedigree of Whitehead of Uplands Hall. This is enclosed in a protective plastic sleeve and attached to the backing paper with linen mounting tape.
