Antique British Coastal Scene Oil Painting in Gilt Wood Frame, c1900

Antique maritime oil painting on stretched canvas in gilt wood frame. The ocean and ships are painted in warm tones of ocher, brown, and teal blue. The naive brushstrokes create an impressionist scene, with ships both in the foreground on the beach and on the distant horizon. The canvas has some scuffing to upper right corner. Signed 'HLT' in lower right corner.

Framed in antique gilt wood frame, with oak leaves and acorns banded within an acanthus leaf edge. Small hole in bottom left inner border of the frame with exposed nailhead. Overall good condition with little paint or wood loss.

The back of the canvas is stamped "G. Rowney & Co., London W., Quality F." Indicates canvas production by George Rowney & Co, c1900. Quality F was their line of 'strong pure linen canvas, dark back, full primed or half primed, grey or white', according to the National Portrait Gallery archive of artist materials.
