Available is an antique ironstone wide-rim soup bowl by Copeland. The brown transferware design shows an egret in flight, set against a backdrop of palm trees and leaves, with a small red and brown butterfly set on the rim. Handpainted overglaze colors highlight the design.
Pattern is called "Palms & Egret" and was produced by W.T. Copeland of Stoke, Staffordshire, England in the 1870s. Design features graceful birds and fauna popular of the Aesthetic Movement, which celebrated Asiatic themes and natural beauty.
Excellent condition. Light crazing and staining. No chips or cracks noted. Impressed backstamp identifying the maker is visible.
