Available is a primitive quilt with excellent vegetable dyes and techniques typical of mid-nineteenth century home quilters.
MATERIALS
The quilt is in the 'All Hands Round' pattern, with blocks of light cream fabric set in fugitive green, with sashing of red and small white blocks in the corner. The green fabric is likely vegetable dyed, which has faded to soft tan-green. The red fabric is consistent with Turkey red dye. Backing is also faded green-tan muslin. Hand quilted in white thread in elbow pattern.
CONDITION
Very good vintage condition, with minor fading typical of 19th century home dyes. No major flaws. Please note that wetting this quilt is NOT recommended.
AGE
Exact age unknown. Estimated c1880 based on dyes and fabrics used. Found in Kansas.
