Available is an antique quilt with warm autumnal colors and an attached maker's note. This is a beautiful display piece to study for its range of fabrics used and geneaology.
MATERIALS
Quilt is in the basket pattern, with blocks of baskets with curved handle set in off-white fabric. Alternate blocks are dark madder brown printed floral calico. Backing is printed copper brown calico. Binding is dark red, possibly vegetable dye fabric. Medium weight cotton batting. Hand quilted in white and brown threads.
CONDITION
Fair to good antique condition. There is significant wear to binding. Color transfer from some of the dyed fabrics onto the white setting blocks. Some open areas and fabric thinning on the front blocks. Not washed, as its fragile state would likely not hold up to wetting. Recommended for display and study.
AGE
Attached note states the quilt was made prior to the maker's 1892 wedding. Found in Georgia.
